Columbia's Horizon Foundation makes changes to board

The Horizon Foundation, a Columbia-based nonprofit dedicated to health and wellness initiatives in Howard County, announced additions to its board of directors Wednesday.

Janet Currie and Dr. Michael Barr will be added and will serve three-year terms, according to a news release.

Longtime board member and current chair Shirley Collier left the board at the end of 2013.

“We are excited to welcome Janet and Michael as Horizon trustees,” said Nikki Highsmith Vernick, president and CEO of Horizon. “We are fortunate to have trustees with so much knowledge, expertise, and passion for public health, and Janet and Michael will be great additions to our board.”

Barr is a board-certified internist who is the senior vice president of the American College of Physicians Division of Medical Practice, according to the release. Before joining ACP, he was the Chief Medical Officer for Baltimore Medical System, Inc., on the faculty of the Division of General Internal Medicine at Vanderbilt University and served in the United States Air Force, the release said.

Currie is vice president with Bank of America Mid-Atlantic and has nearly 20 years of experience as an executive in the banking, according to the release.
