Howard Community cross country takes on Hood Invitational

The Howard Community College Dragons made a short trip to Hood College this weekend to compete at The Hood Invitational. Both the men and the women placed 5th out of 12 teams entered.

Caroline Haden (Howard) led the women placing 4th overall running 25:24 on the 6k course. This effort placed her 18th on the course record list. She was followed by Anna Sandacz, 16th in 26:30, Rachael Lape (Marriotts Ridge), 46 th in 29:59, Gabrielle Petty, 49th in 30:09, Cindy Rockefeller, 70th in 32:23, Kayla Johnson (Atholton), 74th in 33:16 and Shannon Stubs (Chapelgate), 75th in 33:18.

Gary Smolyak (Atholton) was the top Dragon in for the men, placing 5th in 27:53 on the 8k course. Brooks Ward moved up from his usual No. 5 spot on the team to place 20th in 28:56. They were followed by Sam Graves, 28th in 29:33, Edgar Propst, 37th in 30:18, John Lierezapf (Long Reach), 45th in 30:53 and Eric Surgrowe (Mt. Hebron), 68th in 34:06.

The teams will travel to Westmoreland County College on October 26th to compete in the Region XX Championships. The men have a chance to repeat and the women will face a tough challenge from Anne Arundel.
