Andrea Ingram, the executive director of Grassroots, will be honored by the organization’s Board of Directors with a reception on Friday, Sept. 5 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Howard Community College’s Rouse Foundation Student Services Hall.
Grassroots is a county-affiliated nonprofit that runs the county’s 24-7 crisis intervention center and assists with support services for the homeless in the county.
Ingram has served 25 years with Grassroots, and the ceremony is being held to honor her career.
Ingram has also served as President of the Association of Community Services and served on the United Way Community Partnerships Board, among other activities. She was presented the Leadership Howard County Distinguished Alumni Award in 2006, recognized with the Audrey Robbins Humanitarian Award in 2003 and was inducted in the Howard County Women's Hall of Fame in 2004.
According to a news release, Grassroots provides the county's only emergency shelter and 24-hour crisis intervention services. Professional crisis counselors staff Grassroots's 24-hour hotline, see walk-in clients in need of immediate counseling, operate the Mobile Crisis Team, which responds to community emergencies, and manage the county's emergency shelter. In addition, Grassroots operates the Day Resource Center and manages the Cold Weather Shelter during the winter months.Copyright © 2015, The Baltimore Sun
