The Columbia Association partnered with Boy Scout Troop 618 on Saturday to plant 10 seeds for American Chestnut trees, which were wiped out of the area during a blight last century.

The planting is part of a reforestation effort put forth by the American Chestnut Cooperator's Foundation, a nonprofit dedicated to bringing back the species.

The seeds were planted by nine boy scouts and their parents along with River Hill Foreman and arborist Sam Quick and CA staff member Javier Arevalo at open space off of River Run in Columbia.
