An 86-year-old woman reported to Howard County police she was sexually assaulted in a Columbia woods Sunday after being picked up at a nearby bus stop, police said Wednesday.
Police said the woman, who police have not identified, has not been able to provide specifics about her attacker other than that he is black man in his 40s driving a dark convertible sedan with a tan interior.
Police said the woman was waiting by a bus stop in the 7000 block of Cradlerock Way about 2:45 p.m. on June 15 when she was offered a ride by a man she didn't know.
Police said the woman got into the car and began directing him to her destination. Along the way, police said, the man pulled into an empty parking lot near 10600 block Little Patxuent Parkway, parked, pulled the woman out of her car, and then dragged her into a nearby woods.
Police said the man sexually assaulted her in the woods.
After the alleged assault, the man fled, police said. The woman walked to a nearby gas station, where a customer called 911, police said.
She was sent to Howard County General Hospital, where she was treated and released, police said.
The investigation is continuing, police said.
