Howard police searching for second man in string of Lake Elkhorn robberies

Howard County police have arrested a 17-year-old suspect and are searching for a possible second suspect in connection with multiple daytime armed robberies around Lake Elkhorn in Columbia.

Shawn Tyree Croston of Columbia was charged as an adult with two counts of armed robbery, robbery, first- and second-degree assault and theft between $1,000 and $10,000 as well as one count of conspiracy in an armed robbery and firearm use in a violent crime.

According to police, around 12:15 p.m. Aug. 10, Croston and another individual allegedly robbed two male victims at gunpoint in the 9700 block of Broken Land Parkway, taking their wallets and cell phones.

The following additional robberies occurred in Columbia:

Broken Land Parkway, 9700 block, 3:20 p.m. Aug. 16. Victim robbed at gunpoint. Cash stolen, men ran away. No injuries.

Dockside Lane/Cradlerock Way, 7:10 a.m. Sept. 7. Victim walking when approached by two men with faces partially covered. One individual armed with handgun, demanded victim's belongings. Victim complied, no injuries.

Swan Point Way, 7300 block, 8:20 a.m. Sept. 7. Two victims walking when two suspects, matching same description as above, committed same crime with gun. No injuries.

Croston was in police custody at the time of the two Labor Day robberies. He is being held at the county jail with no bond.

Police said they are working to determine whether the armed robberies may be connected and that they urge residents who walk in the area to be aware and report any suspicious activity.
