Copeland's in downtown Columbia closes

Copeland's of New Orleans restaurant in the downtown Columbia lakefront has closed, a restaurant spokeswoman confirmed this week.

The last day for business for the restaurant at 10200 Wincopin Circle was on Friday, May 30.

Jenny Matherne, a spokeswoman for Copeland's, said the distance from Copeland's corporate headquarters, in Metairie, La., made it "difficult to oversee on a regular basis."

According to Matherne, the Columbia location was the only operation in the state and one of only a handful outside of Louisiana. The others are in Texas, Arkansa, Georgia, and Florida.

The Columbia location was also the farthest from the company's headquarters.
