Teen bicyclist injured in crash Monday in Columbia

A 13-year-old bicyclist was transported by helicopter to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore after being involved in a collision with a pickup truck Monday morning in Columbia.

The bicyclist, a girl from Columbia who police have not identified, is listed in stable condition, according to Howard County police.

Police said officers were called around 9 a.m., July 14 to the intersection of Cedar Lane and Hickory Ridge Road. Police said investigators believed the collision occurred as the teen was crossing the crosswalk on Cedar Lane.

The pickup truck, a 1997 Ford, was driving southbound on Cedar Lane near the intersection of Hickory Ridge Road when the collision occurred.

Police said it is unclear if the pickup truck struck the bicycle, or if the bicycle struck the truck.

Police said the driver of the pickup is Rosemary Ford, 69, of Jessup, and that she is not injured.

Police said no citations have been issued, and they are still investigating details of the collision.
