Howard teen seriously injured after crashing into tree in Glenelg

A teenage driver was flown to the Maryland Shock Trauma Center in critical condition Friday morning after he was ejected from his car after it struck a tree in Glenelg.

Zachary Jacob Hanlon, 18, of the 14000 block of Triadelphia Mill Road, was ejected from his 2008 Cadillac Escalade after his car left the roadway while attempting to turn and struck a tree at about 2:30 a.m. Friday, according to Howard County Police.

Hanlon is a senior at Glenelg High School, school Prinicpal Karl Schindler said in an email to parents on Friday afternoon. 

Police said Hanlon, who was not wearing his seatbelt, was traveling southeast on Triadelphia Mill Road, in the area of Michele Drive.

Police said investigators believe speed was a factor. 

Investigators do not believe alcohol was a factor, police said. 

Hanlon was the only passenger in the SUV, police said.
