Auditions for the Columbia Association sponsored Hear My Voice Teen Idol Competition will begin Thursday evening at the Barn located in Oakland Mill Village Center.

The competition, which is in its 10th year, pits teens in grades sixth to 12th against one another in see who will be this year's teen idol.

According to the CA blog CA today, the grand prize winner, selected by the judges, will receive $500. There will also be a People's Choice Award winner selected by the crowd.

The blog also said all Teen Idol Finalists, which are selected after the semi-finalists perform on Oct. 5 at the Slayton House Theater in Wilde Lake, must agree to participate in a community service project organized by Ca's Youth and Teen Center.

The audition schedule for the Teen Idol competition is as follows:

-Thursday, Sept. 20, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Barn, located at 5853 Robert Oliver Place in the Oakland Mills Village Center.

-Tuesday, Sept. 25, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the East Columbia library branch, located at 6600 Cradelrock Way in Owen Brown.

-Wednesday, Sept. 26, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Barn, located at 5853 Robert Oliver Place in the Oakland Mills Village Center.

-Thursday, Sept. 27, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Lord and Taylor in The Mall in Columbia, located at 10300 Little Patuxent Parkway in Columbia Town Center.

Semifinalists will then perform on Friday, Oct. 5, from 7 to 10 p.m. at the Slayton House Theater, located at 10400 Cross Fox Lane in the Wilde Lake Village Center.

The finals will be held at the Downtown Columbia Lakefront on Sunday, Oct. 14 from 3 to 6 p.m.

No music is necessary for the auditions and explicit lyrics are not allowed. Although no registration is required, participants can register for an audition by calling 410-992-3726.
