A Columbia teen is facing armed robbery and assault charges in connection with the armed robbery of a man at a community mailbox in Hickory Ridge, according to police.
Dymtro Klopp, 16, of the 6600 block of Dovecote Drive, has been charged as an adult with armed robbery, first- and second-degree assault, use of a firearm in commission of a felony and other charges after being arrested Thursday, Nov. 15 in connection with an armed robbery that occurred the evening before.
At approximately 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 14, police said a man was retrieving his mail from a community mailbox in the 10400 block of Fair Oaks Road when he was approached by three teenage boys.
The victim said one of the robbers placed a gun against his head and demanded money. The victim then gave the men his wallet, which contained cash, credit cards and several gift cards.
Police said the victim was able to provide police with a detailed description of a teen brandishing the gun, whom investigators said matched Klopp.
Klopp lives half a mile from where the incident occurred, police said.
The next day, police said officers saw Klopp and two other teens matching the descriptions of the robbers walking near Freetown Road. When an officer approached the teens, they ran.
Police were able to locate Klopp and found he was carrying marijuana, and arrested him for drug possession.
After searching Klopp, police found a silver "Vanilla Visa" gift card that matched the description of a card stolen during the robbery the day before. The Visa card was later traced back to the victim.
Klopp, who also faces a robbery charge, is being held at the Howard County Detention Center on $85,000 bond.
Police said the details of any other incidents Klopp may have been involved in can not be released because he is a juvenile.
Investigators are still searching for the two accomplices, police said.
