Two men have been charged in connection with a Columbia home invasion last week resulting in the theft of a house safe containing gold, cash and other valuables, according to Howard County Police.
Police said they are still searching for a third suspect.
Jordan Ingram, 23, of Innerdale Court in Randallstown, and Dennis G. Smith, 24, of Rompery Court in Hyattsville, were each charged with robbery, burglary and theft, police said.
Ingram also faces assault charges, police said.
On March 28, police were called to a home on the 9000 block of Watchlight Court in Columbia just after 3:30 a.m. to a report of an assault and home burglary, police said.
According to police, the victim heard a knock on the door and as he opened it, was struck in the head. Three masked men entered the house and stole a safe containing cash, gold, prescription medication and jewelry from the closet, police said.
The victim, who told police he was assaulted again by one man as he left the home, suffered minor injuries, according to police.
A witness reported hearing a commotion outside and saw a white SUV leaving the area, police said. The empty safe was found nearby, police said.
Police said a confidential source provided detectives with information, which lead to the arrest of Ingram and Smith.
Ingram was arrested during a traffic stop after police matched the white Mercury Mountaineer SUV he was driving with the description of the suspect vehicle, police said.
Smith turned himself in after learning there was a warrant for his arrest, police said.
Detectives executing search warrants at the homes of Ingram and Smith have recovered some of the property, police said.
Police continue to investigate the incident and urge anyone with information to call 410-313-STOP.
