Construction planned to improve pedestrian safety in Columbia

Construction to improve pedestrian safety in Columbia will begin on or before Monday, May 20, Howard County officials announced this week.

The construction will be along Homespun Drive in the Elkhorn neighborhood of Owen Brown at Gentle Way and Angelina Circle. The improvements include the construction of curb bump-outs, ADA-compliant ramps for wheelchair accessibility, crosswalk striping and pedestrian crossing signs.

Weather permitting, officials said, the work will be done by late May.

Signs and flagging will be in place to direct traffic as needed. Temporary lane closures are expected.
