Man to serve 15 years for string of Columbia burglaries

A Baltimore man was sentenced to 15 years in prison for a series of smash-and-grab style commercial burglaries in Columbia in Howard County Circuit Court Wednesday morning, according to State's attorney spokesman Wayne Kirwan.

Sylvester Joseph Johnson, 34 of the 3300 block of Rogers Avenue, pleaded guilty to three counts of second-degree burglary in connection with the May 30 burglaries of Hans Cleaners, in the 6900 block of Oakland Mills Road; Sushi King, in the 6400 block of Gorman Road; and Royal Pizza, in the 9400 block of Snowden River Parkway, according to Kirwan.

Johnson's accomplice, Davon Alexander Jones, 19, of the 6400 block of Laurelton Drive in Baltimore, pleaded guilty in January and will be sentenced on March 29.

Kirwan said the pair were arrested in Baitimore County in June during the investigation of an armed robbery in Cockeysville.
