The Howard County Chamber of Commerce on Friday appointed Ellicott City resident and businessman Ron Meliker as its interim president and CEO while the group searches for a new leader.
Meliker, a management consultant and moderator for business peer advisory organization LXCouncil, replaces former Chamber president and CEO Pam Klahr, who left to lead the Harford County Chamber of Commerce in September 2013. Since then, the position has been vacant.
According to a press release sent out by the Chamber of Commerce, Meliker has spent 40 years in the private sector and served as president and COO of the Kane Company, a Howard County-based moving and logistics business, before retiring last fall.
Meliker has been involved with the chamber for the past decade and joined the group's board of directors in 2004, according to the release. He served a stint as board chair from 2011 to 2012.
Meliker worked on the chamber's GovConnects program, served on the Howard County BRAC Transportation force and is a 2004 graduate of Leadership Howard County, the group said.
Chamber Board of Directors chair Miles Coffman said Meliker's "top-level business leadership experience combined with a thorough knowledge of -- and passion for -- the Chamber and its mission" would serve the organization well until it finds a more permanent leader.
Coffman said the organization expects to name a long-term president in 2015.Copyright © 2015, The Baltimore Sun
