Mysterious feet lead to call to police [Columbia Crime Log]

The following is compiled from police reports. The Columbia Flier includes descriptions of perpetrators only when the description makes identification possible.

East Columbia

Matador Lane, 7:21 p.m. Aug. 17. Officers responding to burglary in progress learned young victim observed feet of unknown man hanging off the end of bed in basement. Victim and other children believed they were only people in home. Children fled to upstairs bedroom. Nothing appeared stolen. Blanket found on bed that was not put there previously.

Cradlerock Way, 7000 block, 10:25 p.m. Aug. 12. Victim was walking home from grocery store when accosted by three men. One man grabbed victim's cell phone out of hand and held him while other men reached into pants pocked and stole wallet containing credit card. No weapons displayed or implied. Men fled on foot toward Owen Brown Village Center.

West Columbia

Green Meadow Drive, 12200 block, 8:30 p.m. Aug. 19. Victim was walking and talking on cell phone when group of three men began to follow. One man threw basketball at him, hitting shoulder. Two other men, approximately 20 yards away, yelled and ran toward him. Victim ran into apartment building before men could reach him.

Bonnet Brim Course, 12200 block, between 1 p.m. and 7 p.m. Aug. 19. Victim came home and discovered a business card from landscaping company on front door. Card had note that read, "We broke the glass." Victim called phone number on card. Company said employee accidentally shattered glass while mowing lawns. As result of broken glass, electronic tablet stolen.

Green Shoot Court, 12200 block, 8:35 a.m. Aug. 19. Entry gained to residence by smashing rear sliding door with lawn chair. As victim exited bathroom, sleeved arm of subject observed near bedroom. Victim yelled, subject fled. Nothing stolen.

Harpers Farm Road, 5400 block, 3:03 a.m. Aug. 18. Victim walking to rear of BP gas station when approached by three men who asked to use phone. Victim removed phone and was struck in face by men. Phone and wallet stolen. Men fled area. Victim went inside for help.

Hickory Ridge Road, 10200 block, 1:26 p.m. Aug. 16. Late reported. Apartment building maintenance supervisor reported unknown person entered vacant apartment and smoked drugs in bathroom. Nothing damaged. Apartment door unlocked.

Tolling Clock Way, 10500 block, between 8:45 a.m. and 8:30 p.m. Aug. 13. Entry gained to residence via unsecured front door. Jewelry and laptop stolen.

Jason Lane, 10500 block, between 9 p.m. Aug. 9 and 12:01 a.m. Aug. 19. Victims returned home from vacation and found front door wide open. Check of house revealed entry gained by breaking side window by front door and then reaching in and unlocking door. Laptop, iPod touch, two cell phones and electronic tablet stolen.

Ellicott City

Folly Quarter Road, 13200 block, between July 16 and Aug. 13. Entry gained to detached garage of vacant house by kicking-in door. Foot ladder, cabinets, copper wire, air compressor and TV stolen.

Elkridge/Jessup

Washington Boulevard, 6100 block, between 6 p.m. Aug. 14 and 12 p.m. Aug. 15. Rock used to break small window pane on front door of former Buttermik Hill Tavern. Property being renovated into small office complex. Push lawn mower, table saw, drill gun set and bag of miscellaneous hand tools stolen.

Jacqueline Court, 8400 block, between 6:30 p.m. Aug. 13 and 7 a.m. Aug. 14. House under construction entered by breaking rear basement window. Stove, refrigerator stolen.

Hearthside Way, 7500 block, between 3 p.m. Aug. 5 and 9 p.m. Aug. 12. Schwinn Mesa mountain bike stolen from garage, which may have been left open.
