Two 12-year-old Wilde Lake Middle School students sustained minor injuries Tuesday afternoon after the school bus they were riding in collided with a van on Cedar Lane between Little Patuxent Parkway and Hickory Ridge Road in Columbia, Howard County Police said.
The road was shut down because of the collision, according to police.
Police said the two vehicles sideswiped each other while traveling southbound. Two of the 17 Wilde Lake Middle School students on board, a boy and a girl, were sent to Howard County General Hospital with injuries, according to police.
Police said they were taken as a precautionary measure, and that their injuries were "very minor."
Tuesday's incident is the third auto crash involving Howard County students in the past seven days.
On June 6, four adults and five elementary school students were sent to Howard County General Hospital after a three-car accident on Centennial Lane in Ellicott City.
All nine have since been released from the hospital, and the bus driver was cited for failing to control his speed, according to police.
On June 4, a 13-year-old girl was struck by a van carrying schoolchildren at an intersection Vollmerhausen Road and Castleford Drive in Savage. The eighth-grade student at Patuxent Valley Middle School was transported to Johns Hopkins' Children Center in critical condition.
