The Columbia Association has partnered with local program Prepare for Success to hold a back-to-school supply drive.
The drive is to give free school supplies to children whose families are in need. Collection boxes are in many CA buildings, including CA headquarters at 10221 Wincopin Circle in Columbia, the Columbia Art Center at 6100 Foreland Garth in the Long Reach Village Center, its three fitness facilities and the 10 village offices.
Supplies needed include backpacks, three-hole lined paper, highlighters, colored pencils, composition notebooks, pocket folders, plastic pencil boxes, two-inch three-ring binders, glue sticks, pencils and one-subject spiral notebooks. Only new items are being collected.
Supplies are being collected until Saturday, Aug. 17. The first day of school in Howard County is Monday, Aug. 26.
Prepare for Success is a program sponsored by the Community Action Council of Howard County, the Howard County Library System, the Howard County PTA Council, the Howard County Public School System and CA. Since 2002, more than 24,000 backpacks filled with school supplies have been provided to county students.
Tax-deductible monetary donations for supplies can also be made at the CAC’s website — cac-hc.org — or by mail to Community Action Council/Prepare for Success, 6751 Columbia Gateway Drive, Columbia, Md., 21046.
