Resurfacing of interchange on Route 29 in Howard to begin Sunday

The State Highway Administration will begin resurfacing the interchange of Route 29 and Route 216 (Scaggsville Road) in Howard County on Sunday, Aug. 25, according to a news release.

The project is expected to be complete in mid-September.

Work will occur between 8 p.m. and 5 a.m., Sunday through Thursday nights, according to the release. During those hours, motorists should anticipate lane closures with flagging on Route 216 and overnight closures of the exit and entrance ramp for southbound Route 29.

During the ramp closures, SHA detours will direct traffic as follows:

To access Route 216 from southbound Route 29:

  • Proceed south and take the exit for Route 198;
  • Follow signs to return to Route 29 going north;
  • Take exit 13 to Route 216.

To access southbound Route 29 from east or westbound Route 216:

  • Take the ramp to northbound Route 29;
  • Take exit 15 to John’s Hopkins Road;
  • Follow signs to southbound Route 29.

Crews will mill (remove the top layer of pavement), patch, overlay and stripe six-tenths of a mile of Route 216. The $650,000 project will be performed under SHA’s area-wide paving contract with P. Flanigan & Sons, Inc., of Baltimore.
