Capitalizing on the momentum gained from its biggest win of the season just two days earlier, River Hill boys lacrosse took down visiting Wilde Lake Thursday, 15-6.

The Hawks (5-4, 6-5) jumped out to an early lead, then stayed on the throttle thanks to multi-goal performances from Jimmy McEneaney (4), Dan Schulman (2), Jake Friedman (2), Danny Issac (2) and Tyler Sauer (2).

It’s the first time coach Keith Gonsouland’s squad has been over .500 this late in the season in three years.

“That’s something we’ve been trying to impress upon the kids,” he said. “Tuesday meant nothing if we couldn’t go out and follow it up.”

The River Hill defense held the Wildecats (1-6, 3-7) to just two goals through the first three quarters of the contest. With the Hawks controlling the possession battle for much of that time, goalie Darius Khademi (four saves) was hardly tested.

Throughout the season, Gonsouland said his team has worked on correcting mental mistakes on the field. Whether its moving feet or completing passes, the coach said the offense has made strides to limit those gaffes in an effort to preserve the defense.

“We can’t ask them to keep shutting people out for quarters at a time,” he said. “We can help our defense by possessing the ball a little more.”

It wasn’t until the fourth quarter that the Wilde Lake offense got into any sort of steady rhythm.

Siyon Lowe score twice in the final 12 minutes to lead the visitors.
