Glenelg won the three-team Winters Mill tournament by defeating the host school, 12-10, and then Leonardtown, 7-6.
The Glenelg games were played back-to-back Saturday morning.
The Gladiators had to come back from a slim halftime deficit in both games to win.
Freshman Alayna Pagnotta scored the tying goal against Leonardtown and then senior Stephanie Asher got the game-winner.
“Alayna put the tying goal in when she was getting slammed,” Glenelg coach Ginger Kincaid said. It was Pagnotta’s only score of the game.
Asher and junior Hannah Doughty each had three goals against Leonardtown.
Although the game was close throughout, Kincaid said her team was definitely controlling the game.
Kincaid said her young team “had moments of brilliance on attack and moments of ‘What was that?”
Glenelg made a key midfield change. Replacing Asher on the draw with Sarah Kapinos.
“Even though Stef was winning the direction of the draw, we weren’t getting the ball. We needed her hustle on the circle,” Kincaid said.
Another important factor in the Leonardtown victory was an interception by goalie Megan Taylor.
“Megan was huge at the end. She made an interception that she took all the way down the field,” Kincaid said.
Down by two and a player down, Glenelg was able to break Leonardtown’s stall.
“They weren’t going to lose that game after controlling it,” Kincaid said.
Winters Mill defeated Leonardtown, 14-3, to finish in a tie for second.
