Dig into a Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper at St. James [West Friendship]

Kitchen workers are busy at St. James United Methodist Church. The annual Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper is set for March 4, 5-7 p.m. with a menu that includes pancakes, sausage patties, baked apples, homemade sausage gravy, biscuits and beverages.

The proceeds from this annual dinner benefit the programs of the youth group's Camp Hope mission. No admission for this Lenten supper, but free will offerings gratefully accepted. St. James is at 12470 Old Frederick Road (Route 99) in Marriottsville.

White coats and stethoscopes. Hard hats and tool kits. Aprons and clothes pins. Sensible heels and brief cases. Just a few of the items that might show up when the pupils at West Friendship Elementary School don "workplace appropriate apparel" outfits for the annual Spirit Day Career Day on Feb. 28.

Just a reminder. The monthly St. Andrew's dinner is set for Feb. 27, 6-8 p.m. Dine in or carry out. Cost is $9 per person or $30 per family, no matter how many folks make up the family unit. If you've got renovation on your mind, come out to the Howard County Fairgrounds in West Friendship on March 1, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., for a new building materials auction. A preview of the items for auction will be available for perusal on Feb. 28, noon to 6 p.m. Peak Auctions has been holding this home building event in West Friendship for close to two decades. The local drama scene has been in a buzz since the news let out that Glenelg High School graduate Margo Seibert '02, has landed the plum role of Adrian in the Broadway premiere of the musical "Rocky," which opens on March 13 at the Winter Garden Theater in New York.. Seibert was a well known presence on local stages including the Glenelg High stage, Toby's dinner theatre and Olney Theater. We in the community say, "Break a leg," Margo.

Wacky, irreverent, rollicking and fun. A few of the descriptions for the show, "Moby Dick! The Musical" which will be staged at Glenelg Country School on March 5, 6 and 7 at 7 p.m. and March 8 at 2 and 7 p.m. Great costumes, awesome set pieces and brilliant music are promised in this "whale of a tale". Not to be missed if you are a fan of bargains. The fifth annual Marriotts Ridge High School Mustang Flea Market is in full gear. The sale which benefits the vocal and instrumental music programs is often nicknamed "too big to be called a yard sale". The large scale indoor flea market is set for March 1, 8 a.m. until 2 p.m.

Rain or shine, the sale will be brimming with table tops loaded with household and sporting goods, electronics, baby items, clothing, collectibles, tools, toys, seasonal items and all the goodies one associates with a big old flea market. The sale is a cash only affair. Marriotts Ridge High School is at 12100 Woodford Drive in Marriottsville.
