Congratulations to Clarksville Middle School musicians Simon Barn, Elizabeth Chen, Edward Chi, Joshua Kim, Christine Kwon, Stephanie Park and Karen Wang on being seletct from among thousands of young instrumentalists around the world to go to Chicago to attend the Midwest Clinic. This is a great honor.

Kudos also to River Hill's Millan Bhatt, who auditioned into the Maryland All-State Chorus. This is Millan's third time in the All-State program. He is also co-director of the Chamber Choir and the Talon Tones.

Local young musicians are extremely talented vocally and instrumentally as you can hear when attending musical performances. Keep up the good work and practice, practice, practice.

Nana Margaret Walton has bragging rights on the latest accomplishments of grandchildren, AnneMargaret, Jack and Randy Williams.

The youngsters all entered Pageantfest in Pigeon Forge, Tenn., recently. Randy was a bit under the weather, but won first alternate as he sparkled in a black tux adorned with rhinestone touches. His twin brother Jack, who won KIng in his age group, wore a Loveboat style tux. Big sister AnneMargaret wore a stunning yellow dress as she won Queen in her age group.

The kids all had a wonderful time and came home with loads of prizes, including a flatscreen TV for Queen AnneMargaret. This was a great start to their Winter Break. They can't wait to show all their winnings to Nana and Grandfather Walton.

Nana Walton is already negotiating for the pink TV AnneMargaret won a few years ago. It would look perfect in Nana's condo kitchen.

Congratulations, kids. Glad you had fun at the Pageant.

If you are spending time with a local student during this holiday season, ask about the "Hour of Code" during technology class. If you don't spend time with a student, you can still learn about the excitement of coding by going to http://www.sites.google.com/a/hcpss.me/truddentech/coding.

Best wishes to all as we launch into 2014.
