The choir from Linden-Linthicum United Methodist Church will be performing in a benefit concert for the American Cancer Society at Bethany United Methodist Church in Ellicott City on Sunday, Oct. 27 at 3 p.m. In addition to choirs from Bethany and Linden-Linthicum, you will be treated to selections by choirs from Glen Mar UMC and Mt. Zion UMC along with the Columbia Brass Quintet.

Most of the sniffles I've been hearing lately seem to be due to allergies, but the cold and flu season is looming on the horizon. Just in time to pleasantly boost your immunity, the River Hill Music Boosters are happy to announce that the annual citrus fruit sale is beginning. The boosters offer delicious fresh citrus direct from Florida

The first order, due by Oct. 31, features Florida navel oranges, Ruby Red grapefruit, tangerines and a variety pack of all three fruits. Monetary benefits go to assist music students and ensembles of River Hill High.

The first order is tentatively scheduled for delivery on Saturday, Nov. 16. A fresh citrus salad would be perfect for your Thanksgiving meal. Peter Pan will be delighting children of all ages as he flies over the stage of River Hill High Nov. 1-3. The high-flying musical fantasy, "Peter Pan," has a cast of 50 River Hill students and 24 younger students from Howard County elementary and middle schools with a dedicated crew of 30 and a pit orchestra. It's a major production.

Theater Arts teacher Pam Land directs with student directors Kim Moseman, Amanda Bachman and Brianna Costabile. Choreography is by local professional dance teacher Kassi Mattera and student dance captain Sarah Land. Joe Blasko, a long-time friend of RHHS, and George Stone, RHHS alumni parent, direct construction of the set.

The professional flight rigging is supervised by parents Dave Lawrence and Chris Barker with RHHS alum Jamie Driskill. Student stage manager David London is building sets with his crew, coordinating props and will be running the show. Helen Hayes Award winner Doug Lawler directs vocals and conducts the pit orchestra. RHHS Band Director Joe Fischer is preparing the pit orchestra and teaching drum techniques to the cast for a huge production number, "Ugh A Wug." Costuming is by RHHS math teacher Rhonda De La Mar and parent volunteers.

 

Featured in the large cast are Amanda Yuan as Peter Pan, Hannah Floyd as Wendy, Kevin Key as John, Anderson Franco as Michael, Kyle McKee as Mr. Darling, Carly Kempler as Mrs. Darling, Nikoo Sarraf as Nana, Carly Hirsh as Liza, Sarah Land as Tiger Lily, Brandon Dial as Captain Hook, Chris Hogenson as Smee, Grace Smith as Jane and Rebecca Snyder as Crocodile. Sara Miller, Peyton Walker, Jen Chidekel, Kim Moseman, Meera Mysore and Kelly Wruck play the Lost Boys. David Fisher, Patrick Mikulis, Jake Daly, Sam Ehrlich and Cailen Hawke play Capt. Hook's pirates.

Performance dates for Peter Pan are Nov. 1, 7 p.m., Nov. 2, 2 and 7 p.m., and Nov. 3, 2 p.m. You can seat yourself online at http://www.seatyourself.biz/rhhs. Tickets in advance are $12. Tickets at the door are $15, but you can get a reduced price of $13 if you bring food donations for the Howard County Food Bank. Box office opens 90 minutes before curtain.

The supper oyster lovers have been waiting for is coming to Linden-Linthicum United Methodist Church across from Freestate on Route 108 on Nov. 2. The annual all-you-can-eat oyster and ham supper will be served from 3 to 7 p.m. The menu includes hand-patted fried oysters, ham, potato salad, succotash, coleslaw, rolls, jelly, relishes, iced tea, lemonade and coffee. Optional assorted desserts are sold separately. Carry-outs are available. Be sure to check out the bazaar, book sale and bake sale items to take home.
