The big event in Howard County for August is the Howard County Fair Aug. 3 through Aug. 10. Entry at the gate is low cost and free for seniors on Senior Day.
Many from our area will be active participants. Youngsters and adults have been making preparations for quite some time; though some get into the spirit at nearly the last minute.
Be sure to send me an email to share your preparation, awards and special happenings at the fair.
Pan Fried Steel will perform in the common area between the buildings at the River Hill Village Center on Friday, Aug. 2, from 6 to 8 p.m. The lilting sounds of steel drums will carry you off to an island holiday — even if only for a few hours. All are welcome to enjoy this free concert.
The Sidleys on Aug. 9 and Invasion on Aug. 16 will wrap up the summer concert season at the village center.
Are you and your neighbors planning a cook-out or other form of block party for National Night Out on Tuesday, Aug. 6? Be sure to tell all about it to give other neighborhoods ideas for next year.
The next Thursday at the Corner in Clarksville Square shopping center is set for Aug. 15, from 6 to 9 p.m. There will be music, special sales and other treats, free for all.
Are you looking for something to do before summer ends? Margaret Walton frequently reminds me of happenings at the Robinson Nature Center, 6692 Cedar Lane near the intersection with Route 32. Wednesdays are free.
