Grace Sullivan, who recently graduated from 8th grade at St. Louis School, received the Knott scholarship, the Gateway Academic Achievement Award and Sister Helen Marie Duffy Scholarship.

The Knott scholarship provides full four-year tuition to Catholic high schools in the Archdiocese of Baltimore. To qualify for these highly competitive awards, a student must score a 95 or above in reading, math and language on a nationallynormed test as well as having an A/A+ or score 93-100 in all major subjects.

Grace Sullivan, who recently graduated from 8th grade at St. Louis School, did this.

Not only did she get the Knott scholarship, but also the Gateway Academic Achievement Award and Sister Helen Marie Duffy Scholarship.

Plus, Grace competed in the National Geographic Geography Bee at the state level for the second year in a row. How's that for a super achiever? Grace plans to attend Notre Dame Preparatory School in the fall. Way to go, gal.

The River Hill Shopping Center concert Friday, July 12, will feature Ellis Woodward's kids' show from 6 to 8 p.m. Mr. Dave of D's Magic will mystify guests on July 19. The summer concert series is free. All are welcome.

The Open Doors Food Pantry at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church will open its doors on Saturday, July 20, for registration from 10 a.m. to noon. Bring a driver's license or ID card. None will be turned away. The food pantry will be open the third Saturday of each month from 10 to 1.

In the meantime, you can help support the food pantry. There will be a food drive at Giant in Clarksville on Saturday, July 13, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. You may also donate checks made out to Mt. Zion UMC with food pantry on the memo line.

A special celebration was held at Ten Oaks Ballroom last month for the 198 retiring staff members from the county school system.

One of those retiring is Clarksville Middle School counselor Arlen Katz. Katz came to the school in 1981 when the school was only 3 years old. Deer freely roamed the school grounds. There was no River Hill community or Pointers Run Elementary across the street.

Much has changed in Clarksville in those 33 years and many more changes will be coming our way. Those who have been with us for so many years will always be missed, but we wish them health and happiness as they move to a different pace in retirement. I'd say "slower pace" but retirees are often busier than ever. Enjoy all the new adventures.

School is out for the summer, but should not be completely out of mind. Parents of those entering, leaving or moving out of district need to act now if not sooner. There are new vaccine requirements. Be sure to check that your student is in compliance.

Remember that Clarksville Elementary is undergoing extensive construction. You can call 410-313-7050 or email Laura_Walters@hcpss.org to schedule needs.

As a general rule, nobody will notice if you do something right. Make one wrong stroke on the keyboard and everybody will notice. I got it right in the June 20 column. The Clarksville Picnic was Saturday, June 29. One missed stroke in the June 27 column had it on June 28. Worse yet, someone added the day to match the incorrect date. I am so sorry. Hope you all managed to get to the picnic on the correct day, Saturday, June 29. I don't plan to repeat the error next year, but you can be sure by marking the last Saturday in June 2014. It's always on a Saturday.

Have a happy vacation and share all the excitement with your neighbors and friends. Send me an email.
