Andrew Zheng, a fifth grader at Pointers Run, may be riding on cloud nine these days. Andrew defeated Bendeguz Offertaler on Board 1 of Round 4 of a chess tournament to become the 2013 Maryland Sweet-16 Champion.
He had a score of 3.5. Along with the title, comes a four-year MD-Sweet-16 UMBC Chess scholarship valued at nearly $40,000. Congratulations! Keep pursuing your dreams, Andrew. You are an inspiration to other young people to follow their dreams too. There are many pathways to success, but they all require dedicated effort.
It's not too late to become a sponsor of the fourth annual Pointers "Run". You have until March 22 to sponsor and get your name or logo put on T-shirts for the 3.1-mile event on April 20. Last year they had over 400 runners. For more information, email firstname.lastname@example.org soon.
There are many exciting events for all ages coming up in March. Mark your calendar so you don't miss out on your favorites.

The Mighty Kelltones' music ranges from traditional Celtic to upbeat Americana. Enjoy heavenly sounds from Kathis Lillie's Celtic Harp. It's billed as "traditional Celtic music with a few twists." You can sample the music at http://www.mightykelltones.com.
Easter for Kids pre-kindergarten through 8th grade will be held at Christ Lutheran Church on March 23 from 9 a.m. until noon. "Easter Means …" will use storytelling, games, crafts and songs to tell the story of the Resurrection and help children understand what makes Easter Sunday special.
A mid-morning snack will be provided. Weather-permitting, there will be a traditional egg hunt. It's free. Space is limited. Registration is requested by calling 410-730-5209.
For more information call the church office at 301-854-2100, email email@example.com or go to http://www.christlutheran.net/.
Wendy Scherer is so-o-o-o excited about RHHStival 2013 coming on March 23 to River Hill High School. Wendy says, "What's neat about this event is that students submitted DVDs of their bands or performances and it's a competition. Last year's bands were so talented."
Wendy can hardly wait to see the list of winning bands to perform this year. You can get more information at http://www.riverhillmusic.org.
Skaters Maura Kilcoyne, a fourth grader at Clarksville Elementary, and Tiffany Wang, a ninth grader at River Hill, will perform in Come Fly With Mickey, presented by the Columbia Figure Skating Club at the Columbia Ice Rink on March 23 and 24.
