Planning is under way for June's Relay for Life of Western Howard County, a wonderful non-competitive overnight event to benefit the American Cancer Society. Last year it raised over $84,000. Great strides have been made in the treatment of cancer, but we still have along way to go.
The entire community is invited to help plan and run activites. To learn more, go to http://www.relayforlife.org/westernhoward. You may also contact the Relay Committee by calling 410-781-4316 or by sending email to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Prayers and Squares will meet at Triadelphia Seventh-day Adventist Church fellowship hall on March 17 from 1 to 5 p.m. You need not be an experienced quilter to participate in creating a comforting quilt for someone who is ill or grieving. On the other hand, if you would like to become a quilter, Peggy Lee and CeeCee Singer will be happy to take the time to teach you.
Has there been a special event in your family lately? Is something big coming up? Little bits of good news among family, friends and neighbors help to brighten the day for others and often provide encouragement and positive incentives. Be sure to call or send email to share all the latest.
Daughter-in-law Melissa Sanford and I entered and completed the Disney Princess half marathon on Feb. 24. We got up at 3 a.m. to be there at 4 a.m. to start the race at 5:30 a.m. Melissa finished at 9 a.m. I finished at 10:20 a.m. It was not fast. It was not pretty.
The important thing to remember is that it was a finish. I wasn't the last person to cross the finish line, but there weren't too many after that. I met runners from D.C. and Virginia. Were there some from Howard County? Let me hear from you.
