Christ Lutheran holds a Hymn Sing, and adds some dessert

Come to Christ Lutheran Church on Route 108 for an evening Hymn Sing Feb. 10 at 6:30 p.m.

It's a new event featuring some old favorites interspersed with interesting information about their history, biblical basis and more. After the hour of singing, participants are invited to enjoy desserts and fellowship. It's all free. Bring the family and friends.

Columbia Pro Cantare will celebrate 36 years of song under the direction of Frances Motyca Dawson with a "Singathon" in Columbia mall Feb. 9 from 1 to 3 p.m. It's free to attend and enjoy this fundraiser. You will even be invited to sing along with some of the more familiar tunes. Donations will be accepted before, during and after the event.

The next meeting of the Howard County Beekeepers Association is Feb. 12 at 7 p.m. in the 4-H Building (not the dining hall) at the fairgrounds.

There you can get acquainted with local beekeepers and learn more about the upcoming beekeeping short course. The class starts Feb. 19 and meets once a week from 7 to 9:30 p.m. through March 19 with a field trip probably in April. Honey bees are essential to food production. By keeping bees, you will be an asset to humanity. It requires very little space.

Remember to register kindergarten and new students at Pointers Run Elementary on Feb. 13 from 1:30 to 5 p.m. or Feb. 14 from 1:30 to 6:30 p.m. Go to for a list of documents you will need.

Breakfast is back. The Fifth District Volunteer Fire Department will host a country breakfast of pancakes, eggs, bacon, sausage, scrapple, biscuits, gravy, apple sauce, breakfast beverages and more on Feb. 17 from 8 a.m. until noon.

Put it on your calendar and plan to bring family and friends to the Ten Oaks Ballroom at the station house near the intersection of Routes 108 and 32. The cost is $9 for adults, $8 for seniors age 55 and over, $5 for children ages 6 to 12 and free for children 5 and under. It's a fun way to help support your volunteer fire and rescue responders.
