Volunteer firefighters host country breakfast in Clarksville

The Fifth District Volunteer Fire Department held a country breakfast Feb. 17 in the Ten Oaks Ballroom, in Clarksville.

"It was a great turnout. A lot of new people," said Ron Clements. "We started running out of food it was so good."

Eddie Zepp, the breakfast coordinator, and Clements, his assistant, were among the early crew that showed up three hours before the 8 a.m. start.

They were also among the volunteer crew that stayed two hours after the last breakfast was served near noon to cleanup.

"It's a long day," said Clements, who estimated a crowd of around 250 joined the festivities.

The Clarksville Volunteer Fire Department has four breakfasts during the year — the last one will be March 24 — and also a Pizza with Santa in December.

The fundraiser breakfasts have been going on for more than 35 years, according to Clements.

"This is our appreciation for the support the local people here give us," he said.
