Hammond 15, Wilde Lake 3

Emily Speierman got her first win of the season for the Golden Bears, going 3 innings on the mound and striking out seven batters. Caroline Goyne came in for Hammond and pitched the final two innings (one strikeout, no hits).

Offensively, Hammond was led by Amber Ginsberg (two singles) and An’Drea Williams (2-2, two walks). Katelynn Spingola also added a triple for the Bears.

Wilde Lake scored its first run in the third inning when sophomore Hailey Setley knocked a two-out single. The Wildecats added another two-out hit, this time by Brittany Kuntz, in the fourth inning to help plate the team’s other two runs. Senior Kourtney Harrison also picked up a hit on the day.

Kuntz, Setley and Melanie Anderson stole bases for the Wildecats. Senior pitcher Rose O’Rourke recorded seven outs on ground balls.

Howard 11, Reservoir 0

Kayli Paugh threw a two-hit shutout on the mound and the Lions’ offense exploded for 11 runs on its way to the six-inning victory. Kim Vaughn produced a three-run home run in the bottom of the sixth to clinch the game.

Katie Wilkinson led the Lions’ offense with 3 hits and 3 RBI, including a double and a home run. Other standouts were Paugh (3-run home run), Courtney Merson (two hits, SB) and Taylor McGrann (two hits).

Reservoir got its two hits from Emily Wang and Monica Lamm.

Marriotts Ridge 8, Oakland Mills 3

Trailing by one heading into the bottom of the fifth, the Mustangs broke out for four runs to set the stage for an eventual victory over the Scorpions.

There were offensive stars up and down the line-up for the Mustangs, who had eight different players register hits on the way to 14 base knocks as a team. Danielle Lein (3-3, 2 runs, 2 RBI, double), Alex Cwalina (2-4, 2 doubles, 2 RBI, 2 runs) and Jessica Dubbs (2-3, 2 runs and 2 stolen bases) were at the top of the list for Marriotts Ridge. Lindsay Kellner (2-3) and Ashlie Muffelotto (2-3) also did their part.

Kelly Hamilton came on in relief at pitcher and got the win, striking out five along the way.

Hefflinger doubled to lead Oakland Mills’ offense.
