UPDATE: Planned construction at Route 32 and Linden Church Road has been delayed due to rain, according to SHA officials.

Construction on a new interchange was scheduled to begin Oct. 11. Weather permitting, it will now start Tuesday, Oct. 15.

For details on the project, read the original story below.

As construction of a new interchange at Route 32 and Linden Church Road enters its final stages, motorists should get ready for some major changes to the flow of traffic on that stretch of road.

Starting Friday, Oct. 11, the State Highway Administration will close the old alignment of West Linden Church Road and move traffic onto parts of the new interchange. Drivers will use ramps from Linden Church Road to Route 32 and a new bridge over Route 32 instead.

This traffic realignment will last about three weeks, according to the SHA. During this time, construction crews will continue to resurface Route 32 and to build ramps from Route 32 onto the new Linden Church Road.

To make paving easier, the traffic signal and concrete island at Route 32 and East Linden Church Road will be removed, and drivers will no longer be allowed to make left turns at that intersection.

Here's what else to expect, according to SHA:

•Southbound Route 32: Traffic "must exit at the Burntwoods Road interchange and follow Ten Oaks Road to Linden Church Road. Drivers may then use the new bridge over MD 32 to reach East Linden Church Road and drive through the new roundabout on the east side of the bridge to access Greenberry and Broadwater lanes."

•Northbound Route 32: Traffic "must turn right at East Linden Church Road. Drivers may then use the roundabout and bridge to cross over MD 32 to reach West Linden Church Road and Ten Oaks Road."

Motorists should use the new on-ramps, which will open Oct. 11, to access north- and southbound Route 32. Single-lane closures can be expected to facilitate paving during off-peak and overnight hours.

Both Route 32 off-ramps will be open by early November, according to SHA.

The project's final phase, involving the removal of a temporary connection from Route 32 to Broadwater Lane, is scheduled to be done by December. Some landscaping and final surface paving may follow in spring 2014.
