Howard County police said Thursday that a September residential fire in Clarksville has been classified and investigated as arson and attempted murder, according to a news release.
Police are offering a reward of up to $2,500 for information about the incident leading to an arrest.
Just after midnight on Sept. 8, police and firefighters responded to a fire in the 5000 block of Ten Oaks Road. Five people, three adults and two children ages 3 and 1, were in the home at the time of the fire and escaped without injury.
Police said the homeowner reported he and his wife smelled a strange odor before seeing smoke. The family escaped through a side door, police said.
Police said the fire was intentionally set and that an accelerant was poured onto the home's front porch and ignited. There is no known motive at this time, police said, but investigators believe the family was targeted.
Police are asking for the public’s help in identifying the person or people responsible. Anyone with information is urged to call police at 410-313-STOP.
