A state trooper was seriously injured after crashing his car into a tree Wednesday evening, Maryland State Police said.
The injuries of Cpl. Matthew Telep, a five-year state police veteran, aren't life-threatening, police said.
State police said they did not know what caused Telep to run off the road on Interstate 70 near Route 32 in Howard County, but witnesses said another car may have cut him off. Investigators are looking into the matter.
Eastbound Interstate 70 near Route 32 was shut down because of the crash, and the westbound side of the highway was temporarily shut down as well to allow a helicopter to take the trooper to the hospital, state police said.
No other cars were involved with the crash, according to state police.
