Tree lighting

Savage hosts its annual tree-lighting ceremony beginning at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 1, at 9035 Baltimore St. Festivities include singing of carols, followed by refreshments and music by the Hammond High School Chamber Choir. A raffle for several themed baskets will also be held. Bring canned food donations for the Savage Food Bank.

Candlelight tours

Candlelight Tours will be held from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Dec. 7-8 at Montpelier Mansion, 9650 Muirkirk Road in Laurel. The mansion's rooms, lit by candlelight and decorated by local garden clubs in traditional holiday greens, are featured. In addition, there will be a Holiday Ornament Emporium featuring artists selling original, handmade tree ornaments. Admission is $3; $1 for children ages 6-18. Saturday night movies

The North Laurel Community Center screens "Home Alone" (rated PG) at 6 p.m. Dec. 15 at 9411 Whiskey Bottom Road in Laurel. Cost is $4 per person and $2 for center members, and includes popcorn and a drink. Information: 410-313-0390.

'Paint Toss'

An exhibit of paint-tossed canvases and photographs by Delaware artist Kathy Flament is on view through Saturday, Dec. 1, at Tai Sophia Institute's Himmelfarb Gallery, 7750 Montpelier Road in Laurel. Bluegrass music

Savage Bluegrass plays at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 4, at Sam and Elsie's Bar and Restaurant in Laurel. No cover charge. Information: 301-317-7796.

Laurel's mill history

"True Life: I'm a Laurel Mill Worker" is on view at the Laurel Museum, 817 Main St. The exhibit explores Laurel's history as a mill town and the community's early growth. Using an 1870s family to tell the story, it introduces visitors to the lives and experiences of the hundreds of men, women and children who worked in the town's cotton mills between the 1830s and 1929.  The exhibit includes artifacts, diaries, photos and a re-created millworker's home. Admission is free. Hours are 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sundays, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesdays and Fridays.

Montpelier tours

Montpelier Mansion, 9650 Muirkirk Road, Laurel, has changed its tour times. New times are:

•Self-guided: year-round, between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. Thursdays-Tuesdays.
