Parade and food drive Volunteers from "Food for Tomorrow" will be marching in the Longfellow Friends of the Traditional 4th parade, with collection baskets and a truck. Parade watchers are encouraged to bring nonperishable food items to donate. The parade with begin at Longfellow Elementary School, 5470 Hesperus Drive in Columbia, at 10 a.m. and follow the Hesperus Drive horseshoe connecting with Eliot's Oak Road. Music by the lake The Retro-Rockets, a six-piece oldies band specializing in music of the 1950s, 1960s, 1970s and beyond, will perform as part of the Columbia Lakefront Summer Festival from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. July 8 at 10275 Wincopin Circle in Columbia. The band will play favorites by Chuck Berry, Etta James, Roy Orbison, Elvis, the Drifters, Jimmy Buffet and more. Free. Fiddlers and fireflies As the fireflies flicker in the tall grasses, listen to Steve Hickman's band perform fiddle music from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. July 12 at the Howard County Conservancy, 10520 Old Frederick Road in Woodstock. Kids will also learn interesting facts about fireflies and are invited to make a firefly craft. Bring a picnic dinner and blanket or chairs. Cost is $10 per car, purchased on site only. Food, farms and film The third annual "Feastival" takes place from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. July 17 at Clark's Elioak Farm, 10500 Clarksville Pike in Ellicott City. The event is a celebration of the county's local food movement, highlighting the connection between farms, restaurants, food producers and the community. It also serves as the kickoff to Howard County's Farm-2-Table Restaurant Weeks — July 18-Aug. 6 — the annual food extravaganza during which restaurants incorporate locally grown products to serve farm-fresh meals at attractive prices. It will also promote the start of the "Buy Local Maryland Challenge," July 21-29.

The cost is $5, with proceeds going toward Farmers' Market coupons redeemable for free fresh fruits and vegetables for county families through the WIC program and the Howard County Food Bank. Advance registration required at hceda.org/agriculture. For more Feastival information, call 410-313-2707.
