Yard sale The Orthodox Church of St. Matthew will hold an outdoor yard sale and car wash, along with a bake sale, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Kings Contrivance Interfaith Center, 7271 Eden Brook Drive in Columbia. Hope Gala The Domestic Violence Center's fundraising event will be held from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. at the Robinson Nature Center, 6692 Cedar Lane in Columbia. This year's gala honors County Executive Ken Ulman for his leadership on addressing intimate partner violence and sexual assault and his commitment to family and victim services. In addition to dinner, the event features a live jazz band, silent auction and "Spirits to Sparkle" raffle. Tickets are $125 per person and may be purchased at dvcenter.org. Classical concert Sundays At Three Chamber Music Series presents the Monarch Brass Quintet performing "Romantic Brass" at 3 p.m. Sunday, June 3, at Christ Episcopal Church, 6800 Oakland Mills Road in Columbia. Fishing The Patuxent Research Refuge will host a Kids' Fishing Day at the National Wildlife Visitor Center, 10901 Scarlet Tanager Loop in Laurel, on Saturday, June 9. Activities target youths who have little or no fishing experience. Boys and girls 15 and younger can register for an 8:30 a.m. or 9:30 a.m. time slot by calling 301-497-5887. Each child should be accompanied by an adult. No personal fishing gear will be needed or allowed; the refuge will supply fishing poles and bait. Fundraising gala The Jewish Federation of Howard County presents its annual fundraiser, "Federation Live!" (formerly "The Event") at 6:30 p.m. June 13 at Ten Oaks Ballroom, 5000 Signal Bell Lane in Clarksville. The event will honor Jewish community leaders Deborah and Harry Adler. Evening includes a cocktail reception, dinner and silent auction. Proceeds benefit the organization's social service programs for seniors, youth and teen outreach, and community families. Event is an interactive day that focuses on health, wellness, fashion and beauty, and is designed to inspire women to live more balanced, healthier and fuller lives.
