A childhood in Maryland served as inspiration for some of the seasonings in Columbia native Adam Feinberg’s line of food rubs.
About a year ago, Feinberg, who now lives in Denver, released five flavors -- Chesapeake Bay, Everything, Original BBQ, Citrus BBQ and Veggie -- as part of his Fein Tasting Foods endeavor. The low-sodium, low-sugar, all natural rubs aren’t just for meat. Feinberg says the seasonings are equally tasty on vegetables, pasta, popcorn, rice, eggs, seafood and tofu. Four new flavors are soon to be launched, including Jamaican Orange Jerk, Asian, Coconut Curry Lime and Puerto Rican.
Many of Feinberg’s dishes and rubs are inspired by his Maryland roots. Indeed, some of his fondest and earliest memories, he says, were watching his mother, aunt, grandmother and great-grandmother in the kitchen.
Fast-forward a decade or so, and Feinberg landed his first job in the culinary world -- as a busboy at The Kings Contrivance Restaurant. He eventually earned a role in the kitchen there.
“From then on I knew I wanted to make cooking and the restaurant industry my career,” Feinberg says. “Growing up I always had fresh seafood on hand and loved cooking with crab and shrimp in all of my dishes. Old Bay was my salt and pepper and was in most of my creations,” he reflects.
With 10 more rubs and 10 dry vinaigrettes in the works, Feinberg says his ultimate goal is to open a store showcasing all of his products -- “a store where I make it and you bake it.”
