Howard County Police Department will host an open house Saturday, March 15, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. to offer information on job opportunities for entry-level police officers, lateral police officers, police cadets and seasonal cadets.
The event at the James N. Robey Public Safety Training Center, 2200 Scott Wheeler Drive, Marriottsville, will include displays of equipment including a tactical vehicle, command post and motorcycles. There will also be tours of the training facility.
The department is recruiting entry-level police officer candidates. Applicants must be 21 years old by the end of the academy, be a U.S. citizen, possess a valid driver’s license and have no felony or serious misdemeanor convictions.
Howard County offers a starting salary of $48,755 for entry-level officers, a night-shift differential and permanent day or night schedules. Officers can earn an associate’s degree while attending the academy through a partnership with Howard Community College.
A written test will be offered for entry-level, lateral and cadet candidates at 9 a.m. The physical ability test will also be offered to those who have passed the written test.
