Emergencies

Emergency - Dial 911, the Emergency Communications Center, to request fire, rescue, emergency medical or police services. The Department of Fire and Rescue Services or Police Department will respond with the nearest equipment and personnel.
Emergency Information - During emergency situations, recorded information is available by calling 410-313-2900. If officials determine that circumstances demand a greater response, this phone line will be converted to a staffed phone bank to help answer residents' questions. Official information will also be available online from Howard County Government at http://www.co.ho.md.us and on GTV, Comcast channel 70.

Animals

Cat and dog licenses - Licenses are required for all cats and dogs over age 4 months. Licenses may be purchased at the Department of Inspections, Licenses and Permits (410-313-2455). Lost and found pets - Pet owners should call the Animal Control Facility (410-313-2780) as soon as a pet is discovered missing or is found. The facility maintains a Lost and Found Log and provides temporary care and shelter for impounded pets.
Animal complaints - To report animal abuse, aggressiveness or other problems, call Animal Control (410-313-2780).

Borrowing library materials - Howard County library cards entitle cardholders to borrow up to 30 items at one time. Borrowing is limited in some categories.
Borrowing from Maryland public libraries - Howard County library cards may be used to borrow materials from any public library in Maryland.
Library card applications - People who live, work or attend school in Howard County are eligible to apply at any library for a library card. The library imposes no age requirement, but an identification showing name and address is needed. A parent's signature is required for applicants younger than age 13.
Library collections - Besides books, libraries lend audiocassettes, compact discs, toys or videotapes. Contact a local library branch.
