SUV gets stuck at end of runway in Forest Hill Airpark

A man nearly drove his SUV off the end of the runway in the Forest Hill Industrial Airpark early Wednesday evening.

The 78-year-old man was trying to find a pool supply store in the airpark around 5:10 p.m. when "he got turned around," according Edward Hopkins, spokesman for the Harford County Sheriff's Office.

The man, whose name was not available, somehow ended up on the runway, Hopkins said. When the driver got to the end, which is elevated above the area immediately to the east, the front wheels of his SUV dropped off the runway and he couldn't get them unstuck, Hopkins said.

A tow truck arrived around 5:45 to drag the SUV back onto the runway.

Commerce Road, which runs through the airpark from Route 23 to Jarrettsville Road, was blocked on either side of the runway during the rescue operation.

No one was injured, Hopkins said.
