Rose Murphy, who in May 2013 will begin her 19th year working at Forest Hill Lanes, has been named its new general manager, succeeding James O. Miller, who died April 8.
Previously, Murphy was the Forest Hill Lanes assistant general manager and league coordinator.
Michael J. Klein, partner of Forest Hill Lanes, said in a news release: "As an experienced bowling professional, Rose Murphy will continue to build upon the past successes at Forest Hill Lanes. She is an innovator in the sport and in providing recreational opportunities within our community Under her leadership, Forest Hill Lanes will continue to be the family-oriented bowling center for the recreational bowler, and will continue to provide the most competitive league formats for bowlers of all skill and age levels in the region."
"When I first came to Forest Hill Lanes, it was just to handle the Youth Leagues," Murphy, a Forest Hill resident, said.
"In 1995, my kids were Youth League participants, and I thought the leagues weren't being run as efficiently as they could be, so I made some constructive suggestions to the new Forest Hill Lanes Manager, Jim Miller," she said in the news release. "Imagine my surprise when he not only took my suggestions, but also hired me to run the Youth Leagues," she said.
In the years since, Murphy has dedicated herself not only to Youth Bowlers, but also to streamlining and managing the many programs at the lanes, including tournaments and competitive contests. She has also concentrated on birthday party programs and corporate and personal rentals of the lanes.
As General Manager, Murphy will control both general operations and all bowling programs.
"Our community outreach, including league play, open play and innovative programming, plus the development of new programs in keeping with the growth of the bowling industry, are the keys to our success," Murphy said, adding, "But what I love best about Forest Hill Lanes is watching kids grow into great bowlers -- I've seen children who started practically as babies who became avid bowlers and now bring their children to our Youth Leagues. That's the best part of the job -- seeing a continuum of bowling history."
