Forest Hill teen charged with break-in half a mile from his home

A Forest Hill teen is charged with breaking into a home slightly more than half a mile from where he lives.

Dylan Jacob Short, 18, of the 300 block of Esther Drive, allegedly broke into a home in the 1700 block of Chrisara Court just after 7:30 a.m. Saturday.

The homeowner told Harford County sheriff's deputies she was awakened when she heard a loud crash, according to a press release from the sheriff's office. When she went to investigate, she saw the teen, later identified as Short, sitting on her kitchen floor. He had allegedly entered the home by tearing out a window screen and forcing open a locked window, according to the release.

Short was apprehended when police arrived. He was charged with fourth-degree burglary and vandalism more than $500. He was taken to Harford County Detention Center and released on his own recognizance.

No injuries were reported.
