A zoning hearing scheduled for next week on a proposed RV campground in Fallston has been postponed at the request of the developer.
The hearing on the request for a special zoning exception by Aumar Village LLC had been scheduled for the evening of Feb. 27 in Bel Air.
The proposed RV park would be developed on 15 acres bordering the Aumar Village Shopping Center at the corner of Routes 1 and 152.
Plans submitted to the county showed up to 10 campsites per acre, with access to the campground from Route 1. Also included would be an area for RV and boat storage and bathrooms and shower facilities.
Michael Euler Sr., Aumar Village's owner, said Thursday he requested the postponement of the zoning case while he continues to meet with members of the community to hear their views on the project and possible alternate uses for the property.
"There are a few folks I am listening to in the community right now, and I couldn't do it properly with [the hearing] hanging out there," Euler said. "There's a reasonable dialogue going on; we are still talking."
Euler said it is too early to say what other proposals, if any, he might entertain for the property. One of the groups he as been talking with, he confirmed, is called Fallston Residents Unite, which was formed late last year to fight the RV park plan.
Fallston Residents Unite has an online petition drive going against the RV park. According to the online website, 503 people have signed the petition which asks Harford County Executive David Craig to support them in their opposition. The group's petition says it is most concerned about traffic volumes and safety in the already congested area. In addition, the petition states: "It is the developer's intention for the people utilizing the park to stay there short term, however, we have serious concerns as to how that will be controlled."
"Our collective problem is not about the developer, RV's, campgrounds or the people that use them," the petition continues. "We are, however, worried about the burden Fallston and its residents will endure by having non-tax payers live in the area and utilize our resources. (For example: our already over crowded schools, police, fire, and emergency medical services)."
Euler said he has no timetable for moving forward with the current zoning case, noting that he had asked the community previously to reach out to him and they have.
