Irritated that Joppa pool deal fell through [Letter]

Following the sagas regarding several Harford County land purchases, I offer my opinions: First, the Plecker property on Philadelphia Road which County Executive Craig proposed to turn into a trash collection site for shipping elsewhere and about which the Joppa/Joppatowne/Edgewood communities rallied against and won. The residents were supported by Councilman Dion Guthrie who has tirelessly worked on behalf of citizens of his District A.

Second, the proposed purchase of the Joppatowne Swim Club was for the betterment of the community at large, not just Joppatowne. Never mind that The Aegis has reported the appraisals of both properties and the county's purchasing procedures and guidelines for all of these county properties. As a voting Joppatowne resident, I understand all this!

The Aegis also reported the lack of support by the County Council for Mr. Craig to buy the Havre de Grace property - exception Councilwoman Mary Lisanti. That is understood from her political point of view.

I support the southwestern corner of Harford County residents and the Havre de Grace residents. Joppa/Joppatowne/Edgewood should have had this swim club/pool property for redevelopment for all. Havre de Grace boaters and others who make their living from the Bay should not be at the mercy of political decision-makers. Look again at the sagas of these potential property purchases, voters…and follow the money.
