A car was destroyed in a fire early Saturday morning in Joppa, according to the Office of the State Fire Marshal.
The fire was reported at 1:56 a.m., and firefighters responded to the intersection of Singer Road and Route 152 (Mountain Road), according to a Notice of Investigation released by the fire marshal's office Saturday.
The vehicle on fire was a 2001 Volkswagen Passat, owned by Jonathan Borowy.
The fire was ruled accidental, the result of the driver traveling for two-and-a-half miles on the steel rim of one of the car's front wheels.
The fire caused $7,500 worth of damage – $7,000 for the car and $500 for the contents of the vehicle.
Firefighters with the Joppa-Magnolia Volunteer Fire Company responded. It took 15 minutes to control the blaze.
Twelve firefighters were on the scene. The Harford County Sheriff's Office also responded, according to the report.Copyright © 2014, The Baltimore Sun
