CMW, Bel Air, Fallston, Patterson Mill advance in girls soccer playoffs

Girls soccer teams moved into section semifinals of respective regions Tuesday with four teams posting wins to keep alive their seasons.

Highlighting play, C. Milton Wright avenged its only UCBAC division loss, knocking off visiting Edgewood, 1-0, Tuesday in Class 3A North, Section II play.

The game's only goal came just 1:12 into the action when senior Megan Pavlitsa tallied off a pass from fellow senior Alyssa Austen.

The Mustangs had two other chances in the first half, a half pretty much dominated by the Mustangs (12-4). Sarah Murphy's shot was too high with 11 minutes to play and a minute later, freshman Jordan Nichols could not connect off a feed from Pavlitsa.

Edgewood, also 12-4, came out strong in the second half and just three minutes in, freshman Melanie Parncutt saw her shot sail over the goal.

The Rams controlled play the first five minutes, but CMW held strong, before putting together three real scoring chances over a four-minute spurt.

Edgewood's best scoring chance came with 14:00 left. Isabella Barbieri took a pass from Caitlin Rankin and jammed it past Mustangs keeper Stacy Venanzi. The ball, however, bounced straight back off the right post and it was cleared away without further issue.

Venanzi finished with six saves and Edgewood goalie Nasia Denegal had a solid game with 11.

Bobcats beat Hawks

For the second time this season, Bel Air (13-2-1) defeated North Harford by a single goal. Tuesday's win was of the 1-0 variety in 3A North, Section II play.

The Bobcats will visit CMW on Thursday at 5 or 6 p.m. for the section championship and a berth into the region title game.

The game-winning goal came in the first half, with Shannon Williams converting on a feed from Gabriele Encarnacion.

Bel Air goalie Andrea Sipos finished with three saves and Hawks (8-6-2) goalie Emilia Ferrara made six.

Huskies stop Cobras

Patterson Mill knocked off host and top seed Harford Tech, 1-0, in 2A East, Section I play.

The game was scoreless into the second half when Patterson Mill defender Savannah Dawson booted a well-placed corner kick to Brooke Staton, who put the ball just over the goal line.

Huskies (8-6-2) goalie Stephanie Ehly made five saves and Tech (10-3-3) keeper Julie Ransone made 11.
