Five Harford girls soccer teams get opening round playoff wins

Six Harford girls soccer teams opened regional playoff action with first round games. Bel Air, Fallston, Patterson Mill, North Harford and Edgewood were winners, while Aberdeen was not.

At Bel Air, the host Bobcats (12-2-1) had no trouble with Dundalk, winning big, 10-0, in Class 3A North Section 2 play. The Bobcats led 7-0 at the half.

Natalie Decker led the Bobcats scoring with three goals, while Rebekah Riley netted a pair of goals. Jordan Layfield, Brooke Tauber, Carly Lambert, Alison McSpadden and Anna Wehland each scored single goals.

Assists were credited to Shannon Williams, Kayla Klock (2), Renie Tsomos, Juliana Portera, Morgan Smith, Jordan Layfield and Brittany Decker.

Bobcats goalie Molly Loughlin made two saves.

The Bobcats will host North Harford in Tuesday's section semifinal.

Hawks top Eagles

North Harford (8-5-2) survived visiting Aberdeen on Friday, winning the 3A North Section 2 match, 1-0.

North Harford's Nicole Latgis scored the game's only goal on a penalty shot in the fourth minute and the Hawks were able to North Harford held on to defeat an aggressive Aberdeen (4-11) team.

North Harford goalkeeper Emilia Ferrara had 11 saves, while Aberdeen keeper Katie Sanderson had 13 saves.

Huskies win

Patterson Mill (7-6-2) traveled to Rising Sun in 2A East Section 1 play and left with a 2-1 win on Friday. All scoring took place in the first half.

Jenna Staton and Brooke Staton had a goal each and Annie Wysong added one assist.

Huskies goalie Stephanie Ehly made four saves.

Patterson Mill will play at top seed Harford Tech in Tuesday's section semifinal.

Cougars win too

Fallston (7-7) also won Friday in 2A East Section 2 action, beating host Elkton, 2-0.

Sierrah Taylor and Brooke Nigrin scored goals and Mary Beth Esposito had one assist. Goalie Kayla Reilly made two saves.

Rams win

Playing Thursday, Edgewood eliminated visiting Patapsco, 5-1, in 3A North Section 2 game. The Rams (12-3) led 2-1 at the half.

Isabella Barbieri tallied two goals to pace the Rams scoring, while single goals were scored by Caitlin Rankin, Alex van Graafeiland and Megan Poniatowski

Patapsco's lone goal was scored by Jenna Vogan, unassisted.

Edgewood assists were credited to Caitlin Rankin (3), Alyssa Rankin and Poniatowski.

Edgewood goalie Nasia Denegal finished with six saves and Patapsco keeper Sarah Dicembre had 14 saves.

Edgewood will play at section top seed C. Milton Wright on Tuesday.
