The opening round of girls lacrosse playoffs was a pretty good one for Harford schools. North Harford, Edgewood, C. Milton Wright and Bel Air all picked up opening round wins, three of them in the Class 2A-3A North region.
North Harford (7-7) had no trouble beating visiting Rising Sun, 17-3. Maria Auth and Megan O'Donnell scored three goals apiece to lead the Hawks.
Nicole Latgis and Shannon Mansberger (one assist) added two goals each, while Ashley Hedrick and Sarah Schneider added a goal and assist each. Other single goals were scored by Jen Doering, Maggie Halloway, Danielle Hurly, Kassie Deiter and Alexis Susa.
Bailey Saneman added three assists and Katie Clark had two.
In goal for the Hawks, Jodie Enfield made four saves and Michaela Welsh had one.
North Harford will play at Patapsco Friday at 3:45 p.m.
Rams beat Eagles
Edgewood was also a big winner, beating visiting Aberdeen, 17-5.
Cailtin Rankin and LaDae Boykin scored five goals apiece to lead the Rams (10-4). Jordyn Carll added three goals and Alyssa Rankin scored two. Nadiyah Alvi and Tatiyona Stamper added single goals.
Boykin also had three assists, while Megan Poniatowski and Alyssa Rankin had two each.
Edgewood played two goalies – Savannah Kerr made four saves and Kayla Beadles finished with three.
Stats were not provided by Aberdeen, which ends the year at 2-10.
Edgewood will host CMW Friday at 5:15 p.m.
Mustangs beat Owls
CMW (1-4) was an easy winner at Dundalk, beating the Owls, 22-1.
Mackenzie Aponte's three goals paced the Mustangs, who had 14 players in the scoring column, including six who scored two goals each. Scoring twice were Mackenzie Cunningham, Catie Snee, Lauren O'Mara, Lauren Haggerty, Kendall Little and Casey Gover. Single goals were scored by Megan Murray, Emma Cassilly, Maggie Gallagher, Katie Burgee, Haley Matthai, Lauren Cavanaugh and Julia O'Mara.
The Mustangs also had several assists, led by Snee's three. Haley Alexander, Aponte, Cavanaugh and Julia O'Mara had two each, while Cunningham, Gallagher, Nichols, Little and Gover each had one assist.
Mustangs goalie Katelyn Miller recorded one save.
Bobcats win easy, too
Bel Air was also an easy winner in 3A-4A South play. The Bobcats (8-6) defeated the Blue Birds, 17-1.
Anna Farley, Emily McQuay, Sam Keesey and Morgan Hollenback each had three goals. Natalie Neff had a goal and the Bobcats lone assist.
Other goal scorers were Anna Wehland, Shannon Williams, Natalie Decker and Jillian Becker.
Bel Air played two goalies, with Jamie Bittner and Lucy Loughlin each making one save.
The Bobcats will play at Parkville on Friday at 4:15 p.m.
All five teams have byes and will begin in quarterfinal action on Friday. Havre de Grace will host Harford Tech and Patterson Mill hosts Joppatowne. Both games are set for 6 p.m.
