Fallston Fieldhouse plan to be subject of community meeting

Residents in and around Fallston will have another chance this week to comment on and discuss a proposal to build an indoor athletic complex and swimming pool as part of the Aumar Village development.

Aumar Village developer Michael Euler and Rob Weinhold, of the Fallston Group, are hosting the meeting this evening at the Fallston Volunteer Fire Company station, 2201 Carrs Mill Road, beginning at 7 p.m.

The proposed athletic complex, which is called Fallston Fieldhouse, is planned off the 200 block of Mountain Road (Route 152) and consists of a country club with an indoor sports fieldhouse and a pool.

"The purpose for the meeting will be to have an open discussion, to exchange ideas, and to address any concerns the community may have regarding the proposed project," states a flier circulated over the past weekend by the group Fallston Residents Unite, which has been monitoring Euler's proposals for the site in question.

Euler said Monday he wants residents to feel free to ask questions about the project.

"The purpose [of the meeting] is to provide information to anyone who wants it," he explained. "We want to let them know what we are thinking."

Euler said he remains enthusiastic about the plan and feels there is a need for such a facility in the Fallston community. "This is where young people can go to get specialized athletic training; we see a definite need," he added.

The site of the proposed athletic facility is close to Harford Road (Route 147) and would have entrances from both Route 152 and Harford Road, according to a site plan Euler provided The Aegis last month. The site borders the Aumar Village Shopping Center that Euler is developing at the corner of Routes 1 and 152.

Fallston Residents Unite was originally formed out of concern for Euler's original plan to build an RV park and storage area on the same property where the fieldhouse is planned. Other projects coming

Community impact meetings are coming up next week for two other Fallston development projects in which Euler is involved.

On Tuesday July 16, a community impact meeting will be held on a plan to develop the vacant property at the northeast corner of Route 1 and Milton Avenue in Fallston for two fast food restaurants and some additional commercial space.

The plan submitted for the meeting by Milton Avenue LLC shows a 2,400-square-foot fast food outlet, an 1,875-square-foot fast food outlet and 3,600 square feet of retail space. Euler said two fast food chains are interested in the spot.

This meeting will be held at the Fallston Volunteer Fire Company station at 6 p.m.

On Wednesday, July 17, a community impact meeting will be held on a plan to develop a commercial property at the southwest corner of the intersection of Old Joppa Road and Route 1.

Called Bell Gate Center, the project consists of four buildings encompassing 22,700 of retail space and 3,000 square feet of office space. The project, in the 1200 block of Baltimore Pike, will be built on a commercially zoned property that has been vacant for several years.

The three retail buildings planned include a 2,800-square-foot building that Euler said could be used for a convenience store, coffee shop or fast food, and twin 60-by-140 foot buildings from which sections could be rented or purchased. Euler described the purchase arrangement as akin to a retail condo.

The project includes an innovative approach to stormwater management that Euler says will pre-treat runoff on site through sand filters.

This meeting will also be held at Fallston Volunteer Fire Company station beginning at 6 p.m.
